The lines were long but moved quick! Everyone got a chance to have their portfolios reviewed and we got lots of helpful feedback. Some schools that we visited were: SUNY Purchase, Pratt, RISD, MICA, SVA, FIT, and more!

Vans Custom Culture shoe design contest
What is the Van’s Custom Culture contest?
Custom Culture is a national high school shoe customization contest where schools from all over the United States compete for a chance to win money for their art programs. Registered schools receive four pairs of blank Vans sneakers to be customized in four themes: Art, Music, Action Sports and Local Flavor.
Students in my Advanced Art class designed the shoes below based on the themes provided.
HenHud National Art Honor Society makes Fashion show decor

I’m pleased to share that the HenHud HS National Art Honor Society chapter that I supervise is participating in the upcoming PTSA fashion show “ Our Year of Style 2013” and they’ve made some very creative decorations to be displayed in the hallways. Students used paper “dress forms” to create outfit designs out of paper. Working with partners, the group was given two hours to create the most creative outfit they could come up with. The activity was based on the show “Project Runway” and students were told to “Make it happen!” using only the paper materials provided.”
Stop motion video by Sam ODonnell

My Portfolio Prep class created stop motion videos inspired by a trip to the Katonah Museum of Art’s Blue Sky Studios exhibit. During the trip they learned about the world of animation and production for movies such as Ice Age and Robots. After touring the museum my students had the opportunity to make a group stop motion video in the KMA’s studio. Upon returning to school my class began creating their own stop motion video’s inspired by the theme “Valentine’s Day.” Thanks to a generous grant given by the HHHS PTSA, my students were able to use brand new digital cameras to create their stop motion videos.
The links below have the final videos made by each of my students, this was their first time making stop motion videos!

Using the new class cameras my students in Portfolio Prep are learning how to make stop motion videos. Here’s Sam and Marissa at their scene stations sharing photos together.
Jenn taking photos for her portfolio

I owe a big thanks to the PTSA for approving my grant for a class set of cameras! Now my students can use the cameras to photograph their work for the AP portfolio. Here’s one of my AP students learning how to use the manual setting to adjust the light etc. in her photo. Great job Jenn!
My AP Art students are in the KMA “Young Artists” show!

Congrats to Maya, Jenn, Syndey, Manuela, Maia, Meghan and Arianna for submitting some beautiful pieces. The reception is this Sunday from 3-5, hope to see everyone there!
